It has to be said that the countdown to a new year seems like it was an age ago, and now we are a few weeks into 2022; it is as good as time as any to look at the year ahead of us in terms of kitchen design trends.
Trends come and go in many aspects of our lives, and interior design is no different. There are always different trends that you can take inspiration from in the way your house looks, and in this post, we will look at the 2022 kitchen extension trends that you can try out for yourself.
All-round style with round edges
It seems like hard corners and lots of angles have always been the way to go when it comes to kitchen design. However, things are changing, and it is now better to be round rather than square. Roundness in some shape or form has really started to take off in kitchen design. This could be arches or perhaps the edges of cabinets, counters and islands being much more rounded.
Not only do these look gorgeous, but they are much safer for family homes, too, as they are not quite as dangerous if someone bangs into them.
Go green….literally
Now, we don’t mean this in the sense of being eco-aware (although, of course, this is hugely important for us to be doing at home). What we mean by this is the idea of using the colour green in kitchen design. Green is fresh, and green is eye-catching, which means that it will perfectly bring the space to life.
We particularly like the idea of using mint green to add little touches to the room, such as on the cabinets or perhaps in the accessories.
Texture
Another thing that you could add to your kitchen if you have a kitchen extension built is texture. Texture has been seen (and gone out of style) in living rooms, but it is now definitely coming back into kitchens.
There are several ways to bring texture into this part of your home. Any wooden surfaces that you have could have visible grains on them, or if you prefer a more industrial feel, you could always opt for brushed metals instead.
If you have a “social space” in your kitchen, you can even go for lots of texture on the furniture and furnishings in that space. Such as a leather sofa with some faux fur cushions and throws.
Of course, it is entirely down to you to think about how you want to transform your kitchen. You may like the idea of one of these trends, or you may want to go your own way. There is no right answer when it comes to kitchen design.
