Like the rest of your house, home extensions can see a lot of trends come and go. These could be in the form of how you have your extensions built, their layout, and how they are designed and decorated.

Wanting to ensure that your home’s extension is a functional part will usually be your first consideration. However, you will also want to think about how it looks and the type of design and décor you go for.

To help inspire you, make sure your loft conversions are as stylish as possible. We have put together some of our top predictions for home extension trends that are coming up in the next few months.

Rear extensions will be the go-to choice

If you want to create an open-plan living area in your home, then there is a good chance that you will consider a rear extension. These are particularly true if you live in a built-up area and you want to be still able to extend your home.

You can make a rear extension as either a single or double floor. This will depend on the design of your home already, the space you have to spare in your garden and the budget you have available to spend too.

Home offices will rise

When it comes to extensions, the most common reason is usually for a kitchen or a dining room. Or at least this used to be the case. A popular theme amongst extensions is to use the space to create a home office.

Home offices are becoming more popular because there has been a substantial increase in those who work remotely due to covid. Whilst some people may already have enough space to factor in an office in their home, this is not true for others. Home offices are a great way to use an extension space, they don’t need to be too big, and they can add value to your home, too, should you ever choose to sell up and move on.

A home gym won’t be a luxury

Another trend for home extensions that seems to have come from Covid times is using the space to create a home gym. Home gyms can be used anytime, which means they are useful if you want to work out and keep fit but don’t want to go to the gym (either due to time or because you don’t feel comfortable).

Home gyms used to be seen as somewhat of a luxury, but they are something now that you will see more often in homes of all sizes.

Sustainability and energy saving are key

Whilst the energy crisis is hopefully not permanent, the way it makes us think about our homes and the energy we use may very well be. More and more people will be considering their carbon footprint and how they can reduce it, starting at home.

When building an extension, lots of people are going to want to find ways they can make it as sustainable as possible. Not only for the benefit this will have on the planet but also how it will help them in the long and short term.

As you can see, there are lots of trends when it comes to home extensions. Rather than simply doing them because they are popular, it is much better to think about which trends will work for you and how you can implement them into your extension building plans.
