South West London House Extension Case Study
Brief: Single storey rear kitchen extension to a mid-terraced house on Elmcroft Drive in Chessington, Kingston Upon Thames, creating an open plan kitchen diner.
Our client approached us for a quote on an extensive design and build extension project to their home in Chessington, Kingston Upon Thames. The idea was to create a larger open plan kitchen and dining area that opened out into garden, connecting the inside and outside space. Following a site survey from Simply Extend, our client was recommended a single storey rear kitchen extension. Single storey extensions can be brilliant for creating a very light open space, as multiple skylights can be installed into the single storey roof, flooding the room with light.
Once contracts were drawn up and signed, all documents were handed over to the design team who then set to work drawing up relevant plans and structural calculations and submitting them for approval. Once this was achieved, the construction team set about creating and building the all important extension.
Throughout the process, our client was assigned a dedicated project manager, on hand to answer any queries and manage the build, ensuring deadlines were met. Our client could also check the progress of their build and monitor upcoming payments through the Simply Dashboard.
Our client was very happy with the end result, featuring stunning wooden floors, a modern white brick wall feature and matching glossy marble kitchen island. The open plan design is perfect for hosting and entertaining guests, or spending quality time with family.
A large set of bi-folding doors coupled with vast and stretching skylights were used to hit the room with natural light from all angles, creating a bright open space.
Our client opted for a flat roof for their single storey extension, producing a more modern look that allowed both skylights and light wells to be more easily fitted than with a traditional pitched roof.
