Rear Kitchen Extension Case Study, South London
Brief: Kitchen Extension Minard Road. To design and build a rear extension to an end of terraced home in Catford, South London.
This is the first extension project completed by Simply Extend on Minard Road in South London, with another extension underway currently to another home on the same street. We were extremely pleased to be appointed by our clients to help design and build the perfect extension to their home. Victorian homes or period properties are fantastic for converting with either loft conversions or kitchen extension such as this example on Minard Road.
To get started, Simply Extend appointed one of our architectural teams to work with out client to design the area including where to put the kitchen, the type of roof and windows required as well as the precise measurements of the extension. Minard Road in Catford falls under the borough of Lewisham, so the client’s home extension plans were submitted to Lewisham council for approval. Luckily the site dimensions and scope of the extension meant that it could be constructed under permitted development, so full planning permission was not required in this case.
The Simply Extend construction team could then get underway bringing the plans to life through lots of different trades. The groundworks and structural teams were brought in first to clear the space and lay the foundations for the new extension to be built on. Next the brick layers started to build the actual shell of the extension and together with the roofing team were able to make it water tight. It was at this point that the kitchen extension started to feel like it was coming together, especially once internal work could begin.
Once all the plastering and electrics and plumbing were installed our clients were able to get their dream kitchen installed into the new extension. The final result is simply stunning with dark grey kitchen cupboards set off against a beautiful wooden parquet floor. A row of pendant lights above the kitchen island turns the area into the perfect social setting, ideal for entertaining guests or family. Our client decided to choose lovely large anthracite coloured bi-folding doors, which opened up and connected the extension to their garden.
