Side Return Kitchen Extension Clapton, Mount Pleasant Lane

Simply Extend were enlisted to carry out a full design and build kitchen extension project on a property on Mount Pleasant Lane, East London. The brief was to use the side return extension area to create a large kitchen and dining area as well as a new ground floor toilet.  Our client could be assured that by choosing Simply Extend the costs associated with their build would remain fixed, so they’d know exactly what to pay and when.

Designing and Planning

In the first stages of the project, Simply Extend assigned an one of our architectural teams to design the area where the new, larger kitchen and dining space would be. Plans were drawn up, with precise measurements and detailed considerations made for the types of roof and windows to be installed.  To make room for the new side return kitchen extension, the property’s existing conservatory would need to be removed and planning approval granted from the local council.  

Constructing the Dream

Following approval, the Simply Extend construction team were brought in to bring the vision to life. Groundworks and structural teams cleared the space and laid the foundations for the new extension build. Bricklayers subsequently got to work building the shell of the extension, in conjunction with the roofing team. Once made watertight, the internal work could start with plastering, electrics and plumbing installed.

The Completed Look

The final result was a beautiful open plan kitchen and dining area, perfect for family nights and entertaining guests. Our client chose to pair a colour palette of soft pink with neutral grey accents and occasional gold embellishments, producing a stylish and contemporary space. An additional ground floor toilet was added to the property, to save on trips up the stairs.

To cast volumes of natural light and brighten the dining area, a vast and stretching roof lantern was installed in the new roof. A refreshingly light wooden parquet floor was added to the large, light-filled space, as well as a set of new bifolding doors opening into the garden. Bifolding doors offer a brilliant addition to any kitchen extension as they add masses of light to any room, whilst requiring little space to function.

To incorporate more light into the new kitchen, a row of drop-down pendant lights exuding a warm glow were installed above the reflective marble kitchen island. To add some jazz, subtle kitchen features and fixtures were dressed in a lick of lustrous gold paint.
