Side Return Extension Finsbury Park, Corbyn Road

Brief: Single storey side extension increasing the dining room area to a mid-terraced house not in a conservation area.

Recently, the Simply Extend team have completed a side return extension project in Finsbury Park, North London. We have completed several extensions in this area of London, with many stunning North London properties adding even more value to their homes by choosing to have a Simply Extend home or kitchen extension. This particular extension created addition space in this family’s kitchen area, in addition to increasing the amount of natural light entering the kitchen space.

This kitchen extension features two skylights that draw in lots of natural light in from the pitched roofing structure of the extended segment of the house. By having a pitched roof, our clients have maximised the amount of light entering the room, with the angle of the roof throwing light more centrally into the kitchen. This is an important feature to remember when deciding whether to have a flat or pitched roof on your extension. In addition to the skylights, our clients have opted to have a custom panel of glazing on the rear extension wall, being cut to the slope of the pitched roof. This again has maximised the amount of light entering the extended space, whilst also creating a beautiful design touch as glass panels are famous for! Instead of feeling like a wall to the garden, this custom panel fuses the outdoor garden space with the interior kitchen, creating a natural ambience in this new extension space. The greenery from the potted plants is a nice touch against the glass panel, bringing natural colours into the interior colour scheme.

Opposite this beautiful custom glass panel, our clients have had a glass door installed to create access to their decking area. The aluminium framing around the door matches the aluminium frame of the custom glass panel opposite, which ties in with the deep blue of the radiator unit. These subtle colour touches create cohesion within the room, and make the space seem modern, smart and clean. This darker blue colour is contrasted against the neutral off-grey paint on the side wall of the extension.

Our clients have opted to balance their natural lighting choices with spotlights situated between the skylights. Simply Extend installed all the electrical points in this extension, including these spotlights, which make all the difference at night when lighting your extension space.
