Brief: Single Storey Wrap Around Extension to a Mid-Terrace House, not in a conservation area, creating a larger kitchen with a living/dining room. Our Fulham clients approached us with the goal of creating a multifunctional space at the rear of their London home. They wanted a bright, functional area that could serve as a dedicated workspace for now, but with the flexibility to easily transform into a guest room or private studio in the future.
The kitchen plays a central role in the functionality and flow of the extension, seamlessly integrating into the overall layout. Designed to complement the space both practically and visually, it supports everyday use while contributing to the clean, modern feel of the interior. Rather than standing out, it enhances the sense of continuity and purpose within the extension, helping to make the new space feel natural, complete, and ready for daily living.
To maximise the connection with the garden, we installed a set of large bi-fold doors. These open up fully onto the outdoor patio, creating a seamless flow between indoors and outdoors. The clients loved the idea of blending the workspace with nature, and this feature makes it easy to step outside for a coffee break or enjoy open-air entertaining in the evenings. It also helps to make the space feel much larger and more open, even when the doors are closed.
Natural light was another key priority. To bring in as much daylight as possible, we incorporated skylights into the roof of the Fulham extension. These allow sunlight to pour into the space throughout the day, creating a bright, uplifting atmosphere that’s perfect whether the room is being used for work, relaxation, or as a guest retreat. In the evenings, carefully positioned accent lights provide a softer touch of brightness, adding warmth and ambience to the space while maintaining its inviting, multifunctional feel.
To complete the look and feel, our clients opted for bespoke wooden flooring. The carefully selected wood adds warmth and character, accenting the room’s colour scheme and bringing a cohesive, natural finish to the interior. It’s a practical choice that is durable, easy to maintain, and timeless in style.
