Under current permitted development rights (no planning application required), a home can be extended as a single storey by up to 6 metres for an attached home and up to 8 metres for a detached property. For a two storey extension, this is up to 3 metres. This is a huge space, so its wise to understand what your budget is before extending up to the maximum space allowed.
