One of the most commonly asked questions we find from our clients is to do with the interior design of their new space. Whilst we specialise in the construction side of the extension world, we do have some top tips when decorating your home extension.
In recent years, many homeowners have adopted the interior trend of knocking down internal walls to create open spaces which flow effortlessly into each other. This is particularly attractive in London properties, as it can make your property seem bigger and provides a contrasting environment to the tight layout of the city. We have seen many beautifully designed open-plan kitchens, but we have also helped create cosy spaces with broken-plan extensions.
Broken-plan layouts separate rooms in the house with extra-wide doorways or glass partitions, to retain the spacious effect but create cosy spaces. If you like to have more privacy in your home, you will most likely prefer broken-plan designs, as it allows you to still be within sight to your family members, or out of sight if you prefer, in a quieter space. Avid readers can curl up in a reading corner, or keen chefs can make a mess in the kitchen out of view to those in the living room.
Picking a Colour Scheme
Arguably, the colour scheme you choose is the most important aspect in designing your extension interior. If you want a traditional farmhouse style kitchen, using natural colours and pastels like green and blue can create the ambience you want. Alternatively, if you want a modern extension, choosing a monochrome colour scheme or contrasting colours like pink and blue are a good option. The Addition of Artwork
Choosing what artwork you want in your extension can heavily influence the colour scheme you eventually decide on. The best way to bring in natural light is with a skylight, but there are many different types of skylight you can choose from.
